Nine Waves Update

Nine Waves will be closing in the Fall of 2018.

The owner of Nine Waves in Lucknow and Kincardine, Helene Jakobsen, has decided that it is time for a change and will be parting with the stores. They are actively trying to find a buyer for the Kincardine location and the online business to be able to continue offering some of the brands that are exclusive to Nine Waves. “The Lucknow location will be closing in the fall because we need all the space in the building for my husband’s expanding business” says Helene Jakobsen.

“It’s hard to believe that it has been 13 years since we started on the main street in Lucknow with Crocs and Clogs”. The Kincardine location opened 10 years ago and the online started up last summer. “Nine Waves has given me so much over the years, countless new friendships, lots of community involvement and working together with so many wonderful girls in the stores, those are the thing I will miss the most” says Helene.

“One of the main reasons for my decision is that my husband’s company, Protekta Inc., is growing at such a pace that they are needing more space in Lucknow, both warehouse and office. They are also expanding with a subsidiary in the USA, so there is going to be a lot of extra paperwork. I have always been part of Protekta while running Nine Waves, and now with the extra tasks, I will be focusing on my other passion, working with numbers and accounting”.

When I started Nine Waves, I wanted to introduce European fashion to Lucknow, Kincardine and areas. Over the years we introduced many new brands like ONLY, Vero Moda, Noisy May, Jack & Jones, MASAI, Marc Lauge, Soulmate, One More and Handberg, all from Denmark, my native country. The local support has always been tremendous, and I want to thank you all for that. It has been such a great time” says Helene.

“Hiring students and seeing them flourish and grow with the responsibilities that came with the job has been one of the greatest rewards. That, and the great friendships made with my staff has outweighed the long hours in retail.

“I really hope we find someone to take over the Kincardine location, but should this not happen, both locations will be closing October 31, 2018” says Helene.
